After the success of the Riverstone 200 events, we have been able to purchase bookcases for the Museum. Our reference books are now more readily accessible for those wishing to research their family tree of read more about aspects of Riverstone’s history.

Our publication for 2010 is a wonderful book of photographs of Riverstone. The book is 254 pages. The cost is $35 (or $50 posted). The book will be available from the Museum in Feburary onwards, Sundin’s Dentist in Garfield Road from 5 January 2011, or Copyprint from 14 January. Postal orders to Riverstone & District Historical Society Inc, PO BOX 202 RIVERSTONE NSW 2765, with cheque or money order for $50.

2006 Riverstone Journal added to Library

The 2006 Riverstone Journal has been added to the Local History Resources Collection and is now freely available in PDF format.

To view the journal, please navigate to the 2006 Riverstone Journal Record and click on the PDF symbol in the upper right hand section of the Webpage.

The 17 articles in this edition of the Riverstone Journal cover many aspects of Riverstone’s history including Riverstone’s bus service, hotels & produce stores in Riverstone, motor racing at Schofields aerodrome, Riverstone personalities (Nevis Worboys, Ray Brookes and John McHugh), amongst others.

Website Update

You may have noticed that the Website has been updated today. The main changes include linking this blog into the main Website and the addition of two further resources in the links page.

These two new links are Trove and the Ryerson Index.

Trove is a fantastic resource that was recently launched by the National Library of Australia (NLA), as recently reported on ABC television. It allows you to search Australian NLA content and other Australian resources (photographs, maps, journals, sound etc) as well as make comments on the resources you find and contact other people in Australia and overseas who are researching the same area.

The Ryerson Index is a great resource to search death notices in Australian newspapers (especially NSW).

Riverstone Festival 2010 Report

The Riverstone Festival was a great success. Record numbers of people watched the parade which was lead by members of the Historical Society, with members of the community dressed in apparel representing our history over 200 years.

The Society stall was busy all day, with members answering questions and selling memorabilia. Our display of photos, especially Riverstone Primary school photos were very popular.
